Looking Back.

Most of the time, before I write a blog post I like to look back and read the blog post from around the same time one year before. It's amazes me, every time, to revisit and see how much our lives have changed in the previous 12 months. And obviously the changes we've seen in this little guy seem to stand out from all the rest.

Last year he was a baby.

This year, not so much (as he munches on a pickle).

Henry Zuill, 17 months old, is highly entertained by the following these days:

-turning on the dryer. repeatedly.
-going into the closet, knocking on the door until we ask "Who's there?" then popping out to say "Hi! Bye!" and back into the closet again.
-refrigerator inventory
-watching "Cat in the Hat" every morning and yelling "Go! Go! Go!" before they go on an adventure.
-giving Layla pat-pats
-climbing up on his potty chair and flipping the lights on and off, on and off.

He keeps himself entertained. And he keeps us pretty entertained too.

I had another great source of entertainment a couple of weeks ago. I had the opportunity to travel down to Key West with my friend Kate Crafton to assist her while she shot a wedding there.

I've never been to any place quite like Key West. It's as if Florida and Cuba had a love child and decorated it with a hint of New Orleans architecture. I was a fan.

Other than on the day of the wedding I hardly touched my regular camera. Most of the photos I took were with my phone (collage above) or with something even better.

My new Holga. The photos this camera takes are similar in style to the ones I take with Instagram on my phone- very retro looking. But the best part was the suspense of having to wait for actual film to be developed. I admit I was pretty pleased with my first (in a very long time) film experience. I think there will be more of this.

Kate and I had a wonderful trip. A good dose of warm weather and sunshine, relaxing on the beach, great drinks, great food. And waking up to the crow of a rooster every morning. It was a great long weekend get-away.

You can see Kate's blog post about the wedding here and her post about our trip on her travel blog here.

But always the best part of going away is coming back home- back home to my boys and to bedtime stories.

Happy Spring!
