living room makeover!

A few weeks ago I sent a text to my friend Molly. In the text was a photo of my pitifully bare mantel and the blank wall above it. It's been that way for two years. Ridiculous. I just could NOT figure out what to do with the space- or the living room in general really. But Molly- this girl has an eye for decorating. I remember falling in love with her historic farmhouse the minute I walked in. It has old mixed with new, beautiful textures, amazing style in general. You walk in her house and you just want to settle onto the couch with a cup of coffee (or glass or wine, ha) and let your eyes wander from one thoughtfully designed area to the next. So I knew she was the girl to ask.

Somehow the quest for something over the mantel turned into a discussion with Molly about what my goals were for the living room. And a pinterest board of ideas. And an amazing group of sketches that Molly did to show me what the room could look like. I was instantly sold. And since I'm about to turn 40 (and figured that SURELY could be used for leverage) I sweet talked Mr. Zuill into funding this design adventure. I quickly sold our couch, lamps, tables, & rug. Gave the coffee table to a friend. The walls that were previously "relaxed khaki" got a fresh coat of "revere pewter". Will swears we painted the walls the exact same color they were before but he's also admitted to being pretty colorblind in the past, ha.

Yesterday Molly came over, her suburban loaded to the brim with her wonderful finds. The four of us were gently herded upstairs to the bonus room where we watched a movie and played and waited to get the green light to come downstairs. I've watched those home makeover shows where people cry when they walk into a room that's been done for them. I had NO doubt that Molly had worked magic in that room, but I was surely not going to cry. Wrong. Totally teared up. It's amazing how having such a thoughtfully designed and beautiful space can affect your mood! This room just makes me happy!

A few before and afters- I still can't believe it.

This room is just perfect for us. And these accent chairs? Molly wove those chair seats herself with material she ordered from the Netherlands. Shut the front door. Blown away. And those two big photos of my kids on the wall, taken by my ridiculously talented BFF, Sarah B. Gilliam. There are so many special parts and touches in this space that I just adore.

I adore this little part too, but she was not too happy about not having my full attention.

So yep, there you go. An entire blog post about my new fabulous living room. I feel it's totally justified. Molly, my friend, your talent is astounding. I seriously don't know how I will EVER be able to thank you enough for all the time and energy you put into this! If anyone needs help with a room transformation, she's your girl! But maybe don't give her a call until we get finished with my bedroom, ha!

charlie, nine months.

Dear Charlie-

Here you are, nine months old. You have been a whirlwind of changes this month! You still have your funny little crawl but you can flat out fly across the floor regardless. You are everywhere and into everything these days. Our Christmas tree somehow managed to avoid your curiosity this year, but the lights- not so lucky.

You're a tiny explorer. There are so many things for you to look under and in. You are putting some milage on that little walker that Molly loaned us. It's so useful in getting to you to the next thing to poke your finger into or get underneath.

You have the cutest little top tooth peeking through your gums. It sure gave us some sleepless night when it was making its appearance, so I'm not really in a hurry for the other cute top tooth. You still love to wave and you make the sweetest little kissing sounds with your mouth- especially when you see Gus the cat walk by. You've finally mastered a sippy cup. You know how to shake your head no. I'm sure that skill is going to come in handy, ha. You stood unassisted for a couple of seconds one day, but as soon as you realized what you were doing you slowly lowered that cute little booty to the floor. Karen & Jonathan gave you the sweetest little baby doll for Christmas. We'll say "Charlie, can you give your baby love?", and you do. Your cousin Ella Grace used to "love" her baby the same way and it just melts me.

You had a headful of hair when you were born, but over the months it slowly dwindled down to those two adorable curls on the sides of your head. Finally though, the rest is starting to play catch-up! We think you might turn into a little blonde!

You're not particularly chatty overall most days, but there's one word that seems to be on repeat- "Da! Da!". You'll crawl to the bottom of the stairs and call it out until he comes out from his office to give you attention. Daddy's girl for sure.

You've got both of the boys in this house wrapped around your finger. It's pretty amusing to watch actually. They will do whatever you want them to do to keep you entertained. I've never seen so many dance parties, and they'll push you around the house on your little rhino until their backs give out.

Henry has decided to start educating you early about the important things in life. Even when's he not furthering your Lego education, he'll still pull you up on his lap for a little story time. He's amazing.

You saw your first snow this month! Unfortunately we were all too sick with respiratory infections to really enjoy it, but Henry made sure you (and Layla) got a good look from the kitchen window.

You are slowly (and thankfully) starting to warm up to the people in our circle. Karen was the first one to convince you and the rest are slowly being allowed in as well. Your Gaga is so happy about that. She and Pappy came over last week to celebrate her birthday and they were covered up in grandchildren all night.

While they were here you were definitely showing off a little. Where's Charlie?

It's been a little cold/wet outside for us to venture out there for 9 month photos, so this month we tried something a little different and you thought it was a great idea!

Happy nine months, our sweet Charlie girl! We love you and are so lucky to watch you grow!
