A couple of weeks and Henry and I had the best little getaway together. We packed our car to the brim with his bike and far too much food and camping gear and headed to Montgomery Bell State Park- a short 50 minute drive away. The two of us have camped in the backyard before on a few occasions and Henry loved it, so I knew this would be right up his alley, especially considering the folks we would be camping with. We set up camp next to our friends and the campground shenanigans started right away.
After we all worked up a good appetite we headed just across the campground for dinner at the Gobbles new abode! They head out for their traveling adventure in about 6 weeks and this camping trip was the maiden voyage for their RV! I am so so excited for them, but man will we miss these folks!
Karen filled us all up on delicious chili and fixings then we headed back over to the tents to sit around the campfire and make s'mores with the most ridiculously huge marshmallows you've ever seen. And as per camping tradition, the dads proceeded to try and terrify all the kids with scary stories. Halfway through Jack's story his character hilariously morphed into Foghorn Leghorn. This camping trip was off to a great start. We all went to bed tired, happy and full.
We honestly couldn't have asked for better camping weather the next day. Sunny and 60. Patrick cooked an amazing breakfast for us. After we'd thoroughly stuffed ourselves we set off to walk off all that breakfast with a group hike.
By the time we got back to camp the rest of our friends had arrived to spend the day with us. An afternoon with no schedule, sunshine, wonderful company and completely entertained kids is a rare and wonderful thing indeed.
It definitely was a weekend to remember and one I hope Henry remembers as he grows up. Such a special time with my boy and some of our best friends!
